All current and future BMW concepts using purely electric power – and therefore generating zero local emissions – are identified by the BMW eDrive tag. BMW i has assumed the status of innovation leader in this area.

Just so I’ve got this right: eDrive will be anything from BMW that’s electric, except for the i3 – which is pure electric, but will be offered with a range-extending motor at some point – and the i8, which has a 3-cylinder engine mounted amidships. But any concept that’s an “innovation leader” will come out of the i sub-brand, even if it’s powered by electricity or hydrogen or unicorn flatulence.

So eDrive = electric (except for the i3) and i = innovation (unless its a “concept using purely electric power”)

Got it.
